Bone Stock Champ Shawn Solomon Goes Mini Stock Racing in 2022

Even before they’ve turned a lap in their chosen division, hometown racers are already planning for their next step in the sport. After clinching the 2021 Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock track championship with his first career feature win Oshawa, Ontario’s Shawn Solomon has confirmed plans to move to the Mini Stock ranks at Peterborough Speedway. The driver – who will celebrate his 45th birthday in December – is looking forward to the challenge of a new racing division.

“It was a great year and I can’t wait for the next green flag,” said Shawn Solomon, the owner-operator of Comic Alley Toys in Oshawa. “We have some work to do between now and then so it’ll be a busy off-season. I’ll be using the same car in the new division. We’ll be rebuilding it over the winter and doing a thorough check of all the components to make sure its ready for the next round of action.”

Solomon claimed his initial Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock title by a 44 point margin over Jacob Kelly. Angelo Novis and multi-time track champion Ryan Oosterholt tied for 3rd, 61 markers out of the lead. John Bates was 5th, with Tegan Stanley, Christen Lavalle, Cory Horne, Kyle Johnson and Victoria McLenon completing the top 10. In total, 30 different teams made at least 1 start in the class during the 2021 season.

The announcement made during the opening round of this year’s Autumn Colours Classic that outdoor sports facilities could once again host crowds at 100% of their capacity could potentially see Peterborough Speedway return to its traditional Victoria Day opening. Also back on the schedule for 2022 will be the Fan Appreciation Nights, presented by Pepsi. J.P. Josiasse says the track’s promotional team is looking forward to an exciting season of action at Canada’s Toughest 3rd Mile Oval.

“It will be great to see things get back to conditions our fans and race teams have been used to,” said Josiasse. “We’ll be paying close attention to any of the guidelines put forward by the province but we’re confident that this will be a move in the right direction. I owe a huge vote of thanks to our loyal supporters, whether they be fans, race teams, staff or officials. The pandemic created some trying times and difficult conditions for everyone, but it looks like the worst is behind us and I think we’ll come back even stronger on the other side of it all.”
