It’s All on the Line at the Peterborough Speedway Championship Clash
A single position in the finishing order could help decide a 2023 Peterborough Speedway track championship.
Saturday, September 2nd Canada’s Toughest 3rd Mile Oval hosts the annual Championship Clash and will see the overall titles decided in the home track Bone Stock, Mini Stock, Renegade Truck, Super Stock, Late Model and Junior Late Model fields. Also on the docket will be the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series and special Non Winner’s Races. Grandstand gates will open at 3:00, with the night’s first green flag at 5:00.
“The point standings in our weekly divisions are extremely close and every lap turned on the racetrack could make a difference in the final outcome,” said track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse. “It’ll be a great show for our fans as they watch teams across the board give it their all to gain even the slightest edge in the year’s overall point standings.”
Rolling into the final showdown of the current calendar, Jacob Kelly has a slim 13-point lead over Sean Kennedy in the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock order, while Ember Junkin enjoys a 4-point cushion on Nolan Gould in the SwitchTire Mini Stock standings. Probably one of the tightest battles heading into the Championship Clash comes in the Jiffy Lube Super Stock rankings, with Miles Tyson leading by just a single marker over Mark Gordon.
In the Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck standings, Chad Strawn and defending track champion Kyle Gordon are deadlocked at the top of the heap, with an advantage of nearly 80 points over Jordan Desroches and Paul Boundy. After his most recent feature win, Ryan Kimball has a 54-point bulge over Daniel Montanari in the KOD Disposal Late Model standings.
Kingsway Auto Centre Junior Late Model titles are also up for grabs, with Avery Kirkpatrick enjoying a 63-point cushion over Praxton Sellers in the rookie ranks, while the fight for the Pro Junior Late Model standings could come down to a Cousineau Racing dogfight, with Lucas and Chase a single point apart. Landon Sellers is 10 points back, with Cole and Carson Cousineau 17 and 43 points respectively out of first place.
A solid showing at the Championship Clash would establish a strong footing for not only the 2024 schedule but also a vote of confidence for some of this year’s late season special events like the 30th annual APC Autumn Colours Classic, presented by Motorama.
