It is no small coincidence that ‘Pow’ is the first syllable of his last name. Marmora, Ontario’s Steve Powell is taking aim at his next main event win in Peterborough Speedway’s KOD Disposal Late Model division.

Thanks to some consistent runs, the 49-year-old driver – who began his career in the track’s Super Stock field – sits 4^th in the point standings, with less than a handful of events remaining in the 2025 regular season schedule. Powell says he’s pleased with this year’s effort and thankful to everyone who has played a role in the No. 72 team’s performance.

“The car spent most of the winter at Dan McHattie’s shop and the off-season fine-tuning gave us a strong start right out of the box,” said Steve Powell. “It would be great to be in a position to win every week, but we have a very strong field with some of the biggest names in the business and I like the way the car feels. Putting together a string of consistent finishes can be as rewarding as a feature race win.”

Steve Powell says he enjoys the ‘neighbourhood’ feel and atmosphere of local racing. He finds it very rewarding to know that so many people help out each week in the pits, as well as the shop to keep the No. 72 performing and appreciates the support from the fans in the stands at the track every Saturday night.
