Mother Nature tried her best, but she couldn’t sideline the Saturday, August 12^th action for the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series at Peterborough Speedway.

With 20-laps to settle the score, Bob Franks and Randy Hollingsworth brought the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, presented by GEN-3 Electrical teams from the staging area to the green flag. Franks was the early race leader, with Andrew Massey moving into the runner-up spot from his starting position inside the second row.

Alex Cuzzilla – who had started 5^th in the running order – took 2^nd away from Massey with a handful of circuits complete and John Baker Jr. grabbed 3^rd a lap later. Cuzzilla put his No. 50 machine into the lead with an outside pass at the halfway mark, with JBJ hot on his tail. Franks and Massey were still enjoying a strong run, holding-down 3^rd and 4^th as the race moved into the second stage.

The field started to spread-out over the closing stages, with about a 7 car length advantage between 1^st and 2^nd and the same distance from 3^rd to 4^th as the leaders started working through lapped traffic with only a few laps remaining in the race distance. Cuzzilla, Baker Jr., Franks and Massey occupied the top-4 spots at the checkered flag. Tyler Bouillon, Shane Pollock, Rob Warnes and Randy Hollingsworth completed the finishing order. Steering issues kept the No. 90 of Rick Warnes from taking the feature race green flag.

Ontario Modifieds Racing Series Peterborough Speedway notes: Alex Cuzzilla and Rick Warnes shared the night’s OMRS qualifying heat race wins…An early race spin by Shane Pollock could have slowed the pace but the driver of the No. 3 machine was able to keep rolling, leading to a caution-free feature event.

OMRS teams are getting ready for the 2nd annual running of the Bill Pickford Memorial – Saturday, August 26th – at Flamborough Speedway. Series officials are selling lap sponsorships for the event that pays tribute to one of the group’s founders and former racer Bill Pickford. Lap sponsorships for the 30 and 31-lap features are $61.00, with details available on the OMRS Facebook group.
