Championship Celebration Concludes Peterborough Speedway’s 2023 Season

Drivers, teams, family members and friends gathered Saturday, January 20th at the Ennismore Arena to recognise the successful 2023 season at Peterborough Speedway.

 

The evening’s activities opened with track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse thanking those in attendance for a great season of racing and recognising the help of his parents and Mark, from the raceday food service team in putting together the night’s meal and acknowledging the participation of the track’s sponsors and support personnel who make the weekly programs successful year after year. He also gave thanks to the racers, crew members and teams who continue to make Peterborough Speedway a valuable component in the provincial motorsport’s community.

 

Presentations were made to racers in the track’s weekly divisions, starting with the best appearing car awards in memory of former photographer and good friend Jo Ann Blais. The Bone Stock honours went to Tegan Stanley, with Nolan Gould taking the Mini Stock accolades. Best appearing Super Stock was Paul Boundy. Stacy Switzer was voted driver of the best appearing Renegade Truck, with Ryan Kimball and Kaiden Beatty named recipients in the Late Model and Junior Late Model divisions respectively. The Most Sportsmanlike Driver Awards – voted by their peers – went to John Bates and Rob Crick in the Bone Stock and Mini Stock divisions, with Paul Boundy and Chad Strawn taking the same honours in the Super Stock and Renegade Truck fields. In memory of Terry Calvert, Sean Walker was voted the Most Sportsmanlike Late Model runner, with Lyla Simka named the Most Sportsmanlike Jr. Late Model racer.

 

2023 Rookie of the Year Awards went to Tyler McMurter and Daniel Montanari in the Mini Stock and Late Model divisions, with Lucas Cousineau and James Amos the top first-year racers in the Junior Late Models and Bone Stock fields. Tyler McMurter took the award for Most Improved driver in the Mini Stocks, along with Christen Lavalle in the Bone Stocks. Super Stock racer Donovan Price and Renegade Truck runner Jordan Desroches took the Most Improved Driver awards in their respective divisions. Gary Hannah and Avery Kirkpatrick were named Most Improved Drivers in the Late Model and Jr. Late Model classes.

 

Following their participation in the 2024 edition of the Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Expo – March 8th through 10th – at the International Centre and other upcoming regional events, Peterborough Speedway will kick-off the new season of action with the Pure Country 105 Season Opener – featuring free spectator grandstand admission – Saturday, May 18th.
