John Baker Jr. Lands His 3rd Win in a Row to Close Out the 2017 OMRS Season

It may have taken a while to get rolling, but John Baker Jr. was finally able to put a string of bad luck and mechanical issues behind him. The home track fan favourite recorded his 3rd consecutive Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – main event win – Saturday, September 2nd – at Peterborough Speedway.

Taking the green flag from an inside row 3 starting spot, Baker – who was a multi-time track champion in the provincial Thunder Car ranks – mapped-out a patient charge toward the front of the field. A pair of early yellow flags – including one before the event’s first official lap had been recorded – may have slowed his march to the top spot, but couldn’t delay the race’s inevitable result.

On the 17th circuit, the soft-spoken racing veteran wrestled the lead away from Duane Cinnamon and cruised to his 3rd straight OMRS win of the year. Cinnamon – who won the first race of the 2017 season – hung-on for second, with Mark Gordon, Connor James and Stu Robinson Jr. completing the top 5. Rick Warnes, Randy Hollingsworth, Rob Warnes, Craig Stevenson, Willow Barberstock and Brad Stevenson rounded-out the finishing order.

Details will be posted on the tour’s Facebook page.
