Since its inception, the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – has been committed to the creation of an affordable, competitive series for racers, by racers. Saturday, August 29^th the popular open wheeled tour concluded the Peterborough Speedway portion of its 2015 schedule, as part of the track’s Hot August Night Series.

With close to a dozen teams in attendance, every driver came into the event looking score as many points as possible to be used toward the series championship. Some bad racing luck or missing a single event could potentially drop a driver out of competition for the overall crown.

Alex Lees and defending series champion Robert Warnes brought the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series teams from the staging area for their 25 lap main event. The lead duo built a strong lead early, but Donny Beatty – who entered the show with the point lead – was mounting a charge from his 8^th place starting spot and had moved his #40 machine into 4^th spot with 11 laps showing on the scoreboard.

With 16 circuits complete, Warnes brought-out a red flag as his #95 ride caught fire near the pit entrance. The driver was unhurt, but Warnes – who had scored his first win of the year just a week earlier – was unable to continue. Track clean-up crews took care of a fluid spill approaching the scene, before the race resumed.

Beatty took to the high and low lines on the track to get close to the top spot, but Lees was up for every challenge and took his first win of the year. His twin brother Nick – in a car borrowed from Rick Warnes – was 3^rd, with Randy Hollingsworth and Duane Cinnamon 4^th and 5^th. Ryan Dick, Willow Barberstock, Warnes and Christopher Mulders completed the finishing order. Jamie Wagar, Brad Stevenson and Rick Warnes were unable to start the main event.

Ontario Modifieds Racing Series Peterborough Speedway notes: While running in one of the night’s qualifying events, Jamie Wagar exited the track at high speed when the throttle stuck on his #32 machine. The car struck a concrete barrier outside the track and was heavily damaged. Wagar was checked at the scene by track personnel, before being transferred to a local hospital. He was held overnight to be treated for a cracked vertebrae, broken ankle and other injuries. OMRS officials, drivers and teams wish him a speedy recovery. Wagar and car owner Josh Gruntz express their thanks to Peterborough Speedway staff and emergency personnel for their quick response…Donny Beatty was celebrating his wedding anniversary at the track. He and wife Linda have been married for 17 years.
