Rookie Canadian Legend Car Racer Cameron Townson Gets His Feet Wet
There are many fresh-faced young people making their mark in the provincial motorsport’s community, but few are following the same path Cameron Townson has laid-out for his racing development. The 15-year-old from Newcastle, Ontario is not only a driver. He’s also a car owner and entrepreneur.
While most checkered flag chasing hopefuls his age take over a family-owned ride, Cameron Townson is calling the shots on his No.24 Canadian Legend Car Series machine. The driver himself put together a deal to purchase the car during the winter months and negotiated the deals with the sponsorship partners who are supporting his inaugural season of short track auto racing.
“After spending the past few seasons in karting, I felt like it was time to make some changes,” confided the youngster. “I got wind of a racer who was selling some equipment and heading into a different direction with their own program and we were able to put together a deal to go racing the with the Canadian Legend Car Series for 2022.”
Townson – who works part-time at Allin’s Orchard, one of his sponsors and earns extra money to support his racing program by cutting lawns – says he’s enjoying the chance to meet some new people and learn the ins and outs of some new racing equipment. The freshman runner hasn’t set any immediate goals for his first season of action with the Canadian Legend Car Series.
“This is an amazing experience. The others in the field have different levels of skill and talent, I can’t help but learn as I go,” said Cameron Townson. “I don’t like the fact that we’ve lost a couple of events because of the weather but after my first ever race I’m 15th in the point standings. That’s a pretty good start.”

The next race for the Canadian Legend Car Series is Saturday, June 25th at Sunset Speedway. Series teams will return to Peterborough Speedway Saturday, July 9th for the Pure Country 105 Mid-Season Bash.
