Ontario Legends Series Awards 3 National Qualifier Spots at Peterborough Speedway
As if things on the home front weren’t already complicated enough – Saturday, June 29th – the www.trailersplus.net Ontario Legends Series put a trio of preferred starting spots for the INEX Legends Asphalt Nationals – October 17th & 18th at Carteret County Speedway in Peletier, North Carolina – up for grabs at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road.
A potent group of 25 starters rolled from the staging area to green flag at the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval, with Cole McFadden and Miles Tyson on the front row. Every driver in the field had their eyes on the coveted prize, as well as accumulating valuable points on the annual leg of the tour and the Clarke Motorsports Communications Challenge Cup for this year’s Peterborough Speedway events.
Tyson took an early lead, but a quick yellow flag with just a single circuit on the scoreboard brought the pack back together. Within a few laps of the restart, Kevin Foisy – who had come from 6th on the grid – was running 3rd and tracking Tyson’s every move. The field caught some of the backmarkers with just over a handful of laps complete and ran clean until an incident in the 2nd turn produced another caution period with almost 2 thirds of the race distance in the record books.
On the restart, Foisy lit the fuse that turned his piece into a rocketship. He took the lead and never looked back. Just after the #57 took the checkered flag, Tyson and Andre Fiorini made hard contact with the frontstretch retaining wall. Running 2nd and 3rd at the time, their cars were both heavily damaged and cradled back to the pits. Kenny McNicol Jr., Dave Riopelle, Adam Cuthbertson and Paul Pierik were scored 2nd through 5th. Connor James, Mark Griffin, Tyson, Fiorini, Cory Richardson, Jeff Forsey, Thomas Dunn, Parker Traves, Chris Massey, Glenn Morris, Zach Latimer, Shawn Murray, Cody Newell, Rick Eades, McFadden, Andrew Massey, Don Arnott, Shane Pollock, Dawson Drimmie and Matt Haufe completed the finishing order.
Ontario Legends Series notebook: Foisy earned the Masters starting spot, with Connor James taking the Semi-Pro honours and Adam Cuthbertson earning the Pro classification…Heat race wins went to Cole McFadden, with a pair. Parker Traves, Tyson, Paul Pierik and Foisy took the others…The tour returns to action with back-to-back shows – July 6th and 7th at Grand Bend Speedway.
