Foisy Wins Autumn Colours, Haufe Takes the 2018 Legends Titles
A total of 28 teams with the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series signed-in at Peterborough Speedway October 5th to 7th with the goal of taking home a 2018 Autumn Colours Classic championship. For one of those teams, part of their dream season came to fruition with the simple wave of the green flag to kick-off the 40 lap feature event, as Stittsville, Ontario’s Matt Haufe captured the Eastern, Western and All-Ontario tour championships by rolling across the line at the start of the race.
Front row starters Andre Fiorini and Wes Cuthbertson paced the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends starting field to the line for their 40 lap ‘A’ main. Fiorini – who won the first 2 races of his career earlier this season at Sunset Speedway – had as much as a 10 car advantage as the pack started to catch the tail end of the field with 11 laps complete. Reigning series champion Matt Haufe moved into 2nd and was closing on the leader in lapped traffic, before taking over the top spot with 24 laps on the board.
Haufe and Fiorini swapped positions during an aggressive series of crossover moves as everyone fought to gain positions in the running order. A pair of yellow flags – both for incidents in the 2nd turn – on lap 27 and 37 tightened the field, allowing Kevin Foisy to take over the top spot and hang on for the win. Wes Cuthbertson, Haufe, Adam Cuthbertson and Dave Riopelle completed the top 5.
Terry McClelland, Bryan Batty, Dawson Drimmie, Robin Jongen, Kenny McNicol, Shane Pollock, Hayden Brown, Joe Sherman, Jeremy Coulter, Fiorini, Rick Eades, Paul Pierik, Andrew Massey, Cory Richardson, Luke Atkins, Jeff Forsey, Don Arnott, Ron Gibbons, Joe Adams, Gregory Rudzik, Cole McFadden and Brandon Thurlby rounded-out the running order.
Finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review and post race inspection.
