Bailey Jacobs is Looking Forward to his Peterborough Speedway Homecoming
With the exception of a few practice sessions, Bailey Jacobs hasn’t seen much of the facility known as Canada’s Toughest 3rd Mile Oval since he clinched the Super Stock track championship there in 2018.
Jacobs and his No. 60 Kawartha Heavy Equipment Repair, T.G. Quirk Towing, Chemong Home Solutions, DART Heating & Air Conditioning, NAPA Lakefield, Linde Industrial Gas, Thring Motorsports, Dan McHattie Race Cars Camaro will be returning to Peterborough Speedway for a weekly show Saturday, August 21st. It will be the team’s first appearance of 2021 for a regular night of action at their former home track.
“We’ve been following the Qwick Wick Super Stock Series as much as possible this year, but since that tour has a night off this weekend we’ll be coming home,” explained Bailey Jacobs. “I’m looking forward to seeing some old friends and familiar faces. We’ll always have some great memories of Peterborough Speedway. The victory lane photo from our championship season is still hanging in the shop.”
Like most operations, the Jacobs Motorsports crew has battled Mother Nature during the abbreviated 2021 season. The team had planned to run Peterborough Speedway late in July, but that show was called-off due to rain. Even during the Super Stock tour race there on August 7th, a heavy storm front blew-in just as we were lining-up for our first practice session, limiting teams to just a few laps on a green racetrack to evaluate their set-up before qualifying.
Bailey Jacobs says they’ll be taking advantage of as much track time as possible during the late stages of the year. Last weekend at Sunset Speedway they were 4th and 5th during qualifying heats and finished just outside top-10 during the main event. The 24-year-old second generation speedster from Warsaw, Ontario knows the extra racing will help heading into shows like Peterborough’s Autumn Colours Classic.
“The crew including my Dad, Tyler Handley, Luke Handley and my girlfriend Naomi give me great piece for every race. I’m the lucky guy who gets to drive it,” said the racer, who was named Super Stock rookie of the year and hard charger in 2015 in addition to claiming a track championship during his Peterborough Speedway career. “I’m confident that we’ll ready for battle whenever and wherever we roll the car off the trailer.”
