Ontario Modifieds Racing Series Checks in for Summer Toonie Night at Peterborough Speedway
They’ll settle the championship title score after a pair of late season starts at Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval, but the first order of business for the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – is the year’s final Summer Toonie Night – presented by Pepsi – Saturday, August 25th at Peterborough Speedway.
The popular open-wheeled pack will team-up with the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series as the guest divisions for a show that also includes the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock, Super Stock and Late Model classes, with a fan appreciation autograph session at intermission. Main grandstand admission for the special event is just $2.00.
Several OMRS drivers have enjoyed a special connection with the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road. Former series champion John Baker Jr. had some excellent runs with the Thunder Car/Super Stock field, while current point leader Anthony DiBello scored a pair of track championships. Willow Barberstock became the youngest female titleholder when she clinched the 4Fun/Bone Stock crown in 2014 at the age of 14. Peterborough Speedway also hosts the annual Ontario Modifieds Racing Series ‘Test-A-Mod Day’, that allows drivers from other divisions the experience of open wheeled racing.
Saturday, August 18th OMRS teams travelled to Western Ontario for the tour’s debut at Delaware Speedway. Local invader Justin Demelo – who ran selected dates with the series at the former Mosport oval – swept both 20 lap feature events. Brad Stevenson, John Baker Jr., Anthony DiBello and Chad Strawn completed the top 5 in the opening round that went caution-free. Strawn, DiBello, Rob Warnes and Mark Hamacher rounded out the top 5 in the second feature.
Load the family into the car for the final Summer Toonie Night – presented by Pepsi, featuring general admission tickets at just $2.00 – Saturday, August 25th at Peterborough Speedway. Pit gates open at 1:30, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 4:00. Racing starts at 5:00.
