Championship Clash at Peterborough Speedway Puts It All on the Line
Journalists and public relations representatives have devoted their entire careers to creating a collection of creatively clever clichés that can be used to describe any variety of important events. Suffice to say, the Championship Clash – Saturday, September 3rd – at Peterborough Speedway is the most significant show of the regular season. Drivers in the Battlefield Equipment 4Fun, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model fields will know their final 2016 point standing finishing position when the night’s final checkered flag flies. To add to the level of immense enthusiasm, the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Models will be on hand to delight the bevy of motorsports aficionados with a 50 lap main event.
After last year’s champions in the Thunder Car and Late Model divisions didn’t return to defend their honours, there will be new titleholders in each class. Across the board, the point battles are so tight, it would be impossible to predict any outcome. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says officials will kept busy throughout the night, calculating the final results.
“This could be one of the busiest nights of the regular season for our staff and officials,” said Josiasse. “The standings are so close that positions may very well change lap after lap in the qualifying heats and feature event races. If someone has an especially rough outing, another driver could capitalize on their bad luck and move up a position or 2 in the final rundown.”
It isn’t just the regular divisions at Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval that will be part of the title fight. The 50 lap OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model feature race will help narrow down the drivers eligible for the 2016 championship, which will be decided Sunday, October 9th at the Autumn Colours Classic.
