Kicking Off the Final Month of the Peterborough Speedway Regular Season
Fans were treated to a free corn roast at the Cottage Country Bash – Saturday, August 2nd – to launch the final month of the 2025 regular season of action at Peterborough Speedway.
19 starters came to the line for the 20-lap Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock feature that had Shannon Cappuccitti and Matt McMartin on the front row. As racers fought tooth and nail throughout the pack, Victoria McLenon moved into the runner-up spot from her starting spot on the inside of the 2nd row. The leaders started to work through lapped traffic, just as the race’s first caution slowed the pace with 7 laps on the scoreboard. Alex Dallaire moved into 2nd on the restart, followed by Tegan Stanley, Sam Arnott, Jacob Stavropoulos and Kali Dearmer. Dallaire took the lead with a dozen laps complete and Stavropoulos wrestled 2nd away from Stanley with only a hat trick of circuits remaining. There was enough muscle left in his No. 46 ride to allow Dallaire to score his first career feature win. Stavropoulos, Arnott, Stanley and Dearmer were next across the line.
In post-race inspection, a tuned ECU was discovered on the No. 04 car and Sam Arnott was disqualified. While track officials review a post-race pit area altercation involving the driver of the No. 23 car, Tegan Stanley and Stavropoulos have also been penalized. The revised top 4 finishing order is Dallaire, , Dearmer, Mark Griffin and Cappuccitti.
Front row starters Ryan Kimball and John Owen brought the KOD Disposal Late Model starting field from the staging area for its 25-lap headliner. Kimball took the
early lead, but the pack was slowed for a yellow flag with just a single lap on the board. An issue on the frontstretch on the restart brought out a red flag and led to an extensive clean-up. Kimball kept the lead with the field back under green and had Owen and Steve Powell on this tail. Newcomer Ollie Ferguson moved into 4th with 10 laps remaining before debris on the front straightaway brought out the event’s final yellow flag. Kimball held on for the race win, with Owen, Powell, Feguson and Tyler Junkin completing the top 5.
Avery Kirkpatrick and Brayden Cappuccitti bought the 19-car Nadeau’s Collision Junior Late Model starting field to the green flag for a 15-lap main event. Cappuccitti took the early race lead, but as quickly as a pair of laps were completed, the race had the No. 10 of invader Oliver Gibbons in control of the field. The pack started to put slower traffic a lap in arrears with 4 laps on the scoreboard, as Kirkpatrick, Lucas Finnegan, Brody Coates and Cappuccitti joined the fray. Positions deeper in the field may have changed during the closing stages, but Gibbons took the checkered flag. Finnegan, Cappuccitti, Landon Sellers and Coates completed the top 5.
Racer Avery Kirkpatrick was involved in a crash on the final lap of the Junior Late Model feature. After being assessed on scene by track personnel and complaining of neck and back pain, first responders were called and she was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Kirkpatrick, the driver of the No. 13 car, along with Savannah Strawn and Owen Ephgrave were all checked and cleared by medical staff.
Next on the agenda was the marquee 50-lap SwitchTire Mini Stock Invitational that saw John Lavalle and invader Matt Young on the front row. Lavalle – who holds
down the 2nd spot in the point chase – took the lead at the drop of the Great Canadian RV green flag, with Doug Butler taking the position with 3 laps complete. Slower traffic became an issue for the race leaders just a lap later, with Butler and another home track runner James Townsend showing the fast way around. A lap 7 red flag brought things to a temporary halt as the No. 70 of Mike Nelson nearly left the park after riding the 3rd turn wall. His car was finished for the night, but the driver was unhurt. Butler took the lead again on the restart, with Townsend, Lavalle, Young and Ryan Babin on his tail. Another yellow flag slowed the pace but did nothing to deny the Butler the race win. Townsend – who collected the $50 Clarke Motorsports Communications bonus as the top Peterborough runner at halfway – was 2nd. Young, Babin and Lavalle followed the lead duo across the line.
Due to time constraints, the regularly scheduled Renegade Truck main event was postponed and will be made-up as part of the Saturday, August 16th Fan Appreciation Night.
Last week’s feature event winner Jacob Stavropoulos had a pair of Bone Stock heat race wins, with the others going to Tegan Stanley and Alex Dallaire. Ryan Kimball, Steve Powell, Dan McHattie and newcomer Ollie Ferguson shared the Late Model preliminary round wins. Junior Late Model qualifying events went to Oliver Gibbons, Owen Ephgrave, Lucas Finnegan, Lyla Sikma and Landon Sellers – in relief of his brother Hudson – with a pair. In a Mini Stock battle for bragging rights, hometown point leader Mike Nelson had a pair of opening round wins with others going to Doug Butler and Mike Thomson.
All finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review and post-race inspection.
