Dawson Drimmie Takes Another Peterborough Speedway Legend Car Win
A full field of 22 starters took the green flag for the Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Car Series headliner – Saturday, June 28th – at Peterborough Speedway.
With show sponsorship from Sobey’s of Gravenhurst, Nick Portt and former series champion Parker Traves led the pack from the pit area for the night’s 25-lap main event. Portt wheeled his potent No. 87 piece into the early race lead and held the position until the event’s first yellow flag for an incident in the 4th turn. A hard wreck on the front stretch with 4 laps complete brought out the red flag and eliminated the cars of Cole McFadden and Gibson Baker. Both drivers were checked at the track by emergency personnel and released to their teams.
Portt looked to be on the way to his first career series win until Parker Traves came knocking and took over the spot with just over 10 laps complete. Once the door opened, Mitch Wright, Dawson Drimmie, Keaton Pipe and Mark Griffin followed him in, as Portt was forced into the track’s outside line. Another yellow flag – this time with 14 circuits complete – put the pack back under caution and lit the fuse for a late race charge.
Traves was the leader, but the final fight to the finish didn’t come without one last yellow flag. After the lap 20 caution, Dawson Drimmie grabbed the lead with only a couple of laps remaining and held on for his latest hometown triumph. Keaton Pipe, Traves, Mark Griffin and Portt completed the top 5.
Jake Spencer-Walt, Joe Sherman, Robbie Sikes, Andrew McFadden, Caleb Drimmie, Chase Stievenart, Mitch Wright, Matt Thompson, Nathan Killins, Rob Eggleton, Hailey McNicol, Nathan Huffman, Paul Pierik, Cole McFadden, Gibson Baker, John Milwain and Mackenzie Milwain rounded out the finishing order.
All finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review.
Peterborough Speedway Ontario Legend Car Series notes: Qualifying heats were won by Gibson Baker, Cole McFadden, Nick Portt and Mitch Wright.
In addition to the cars of Cole McFadden and Gibson Baker, the No. 33 of Paul Pierik was also towed from the track after a mid-race crash. Like the others, Pierik was unhurt in the incident. Following his wreck with Baker, Cole McFadden ran to the crash site to check on the wellbeing of his fellow racer.
Next on the 2025 Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Car Series will be a Saturday, July 5th return to Sunset Speedway. The group will be back at Peterborough Speedway Saturday, July 19th.
