All it took was a $4.00 investment to see a full show of hometown racing action – Saturday, June 10^th – during the year’s first Double Toonie/Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Pepsi at Peterborough Speedway.

Feature race highlights kicked-off with a 20-lapper for the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stocks that saw Jake Kelly and Angelo Novis on the front row. Kelly took the lead at the drop of the green flag and built-up close to a 10-car length advantage. Even with a huge gap on the competition, there was plenty of racing throughout the field. Novis and Tegan Stanley were fighting over the 2^nd and 3^rd spots, with last week’s winner Sean Kennedy moving into the top 5 with less than half the race distance complete. Kennedy got close to the leader but ran out of laps in the caution-free main event. Stanley, Novis and Christen Lavalle completed the top 5.

20 laps were on the table as the SwitchTire Mini Stock field came to the stripe with Chris Tubman and Ember Junkin on the front row. Tubman took the lead early with Junkin in tow and had built-up a solid lead on the field. Coming from deep in the pack, Nolan Gould moved into the runner-up position near the halfway mark and began the chase for his 3^rd straight feature race win. The No. 28G got close to the leader in the closing stages, but Tubman was able to hold off the challenge and took the checkered flag. Gould was 2^nd, with Junkin, Christian Lavalle and Rob Crick completing the top 5 in the night’s second caution-free feature event.

Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck action saw Shawn Murray and Stacy Switzer on the front row for a 20-lap headliner. Murray was the early race leader in a highly competitive field, that also showed Stephen Bierworth, Paul Boundy and Kurt Batty looking for positions in the top 5. Even with an advantage of 6 truck lengths, Murray was aware of a hard-charging Chad Strawn, who’d started at the tail of the pack. The No. 35 machine took the lead with 12 laps complete and survived a late race caution to claim his first career Renegade Truck checkered flag. Murray, Boundy, Kyle Gordon and Brad Lavalle were next across the line.

Front row starters Donovan Price and Paul Boundy brought the Jiffy Lube Super Stock starting field from the staging area for a 20-lap feature event. With Boundy taking the early lead from his outside front row starting spot, Mark Gordon and Brandon Feeney fell in behind the leader. Boundy was enjoying a strong run, with Miles Tyson filling the leader’s rear-view mirror near the halfway mark and trying to get around the No. 08 machine. A yellow flag with a handful of laps remaining brought the pack back together and opened the door for Tyson, as he claimed a lead on the restart that he wouldn’t surrender. Gordon, Feeney, Marlie Owen and Boundy followed the leader across the stripe.

As car counts continue to grow, track officials have split the Kingsway Auto Centre Junior Late Model field into 2 classifications, determined by timed laps. The No. 13 of Avery Kirkpatrick took the rookie main event win over Lyla Sikma, Cole Cousineau, Grace MacInnes and Praxton Sellers. while the pro feature was won by Carson Cousineau, with Lucas Cousineau, Keegan Moat, Chase Stevenson and Landon Sellers completing the top 5.

Jake Kelly, Angelo Novis, John Bates and last week’s feature winner Sean Kennedy each picked-up a Bone Stock preliminary round checkered flag, Ember Junkin scored a pair of Mini Stock heat race wins, with the others going to Chris Tubman and the winner of the year’s first 2 feature events, Nolan Gould. Stacy Switzer, her father Stephen Bierworth, reigning track champion Kyle Gordon and Shawn Murray each had wins in the Renegade Truck qualifiers. In the Rookie Junior Late Model heats, Cole Cousineau had a pair of wins, while the Pro Junior Late Model qualifiers went to Jakob Spencer-Walt with a pair, with Morgan Moore and Chase Stevenson split the others. Brandon Feeney and Miles Tyson shared the Super Stock opening round wins.

All finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review, post-race technical and safety inspection.

Bullring bullet points: Fans witnessed a scary wreck during Mini Stock qualifying when hard contact with the frontstretch wall took out the cars of Todd Labadie and Victor Vowles. The drivers were shaken-up, but otherwise unhurt…A pair of Super Stock newcomers had a tough night. Gerrit Tiemersma had his No. 17 ride sidelined by another in a long line of transmission failures, while the No. 21R of Clayton Reed experienced mechanical issues in the team’s tow rig on the way to the track…Doug Wills took a turn at the controls of his son’s No. 28 Mini Stock, while Brad Lavalle wheeled the No. 67 Renegade Truck…Newcomer Scott Jacobs was on hand in the No. 15 Truck, with Jakob Spencer-Walt driving the Cousineau Racing No. 08 Junior Late Model.

Next on this year’s Peterborough Speedway line-up, KOD Disposal presents the APC Pro Late Model 100 lapper and a Qwick Wick Super Stock 50 lap ‘A’ main, along with the home track Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock and Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck divisions. Pit gates open at 12:30, with spectator grandstands unlocked at 3:00 and racing at 5:00.
