Another page was torn from the 2022 regular season calendar as Peterborough Speedway fans, drivers and race teams wrapped-up the month of August with a stellar 5 division show.

The night’s opening main event was a 15-lap headliner for the Kingsway Auto Centre Junior Late Models. Chase Stevenson and Kaiden Beatty brought the 10-car field to the Great Canadian RV green flag. Stevenson grabbed the early lead and held-off a challenge from newcomer Ryder White. A red flag near the midway mark brought the field back together but didn’t keep the No. 77 team from victory lane. With his win, Stevenson pocketed $300.00 from Todd Delisle Racing and earned a 2023 racecar wrap from Dwayne Batty at Risen Graphics. Chase Cousineau and Lucas Finnegan shared the hard-luck award, with Ryder White coming from the longest distance to the track. Peterborough Speedway officials thank all donors for supporting racing in the Junior Late Model division.

Brad Stevenson and Marlie Owen brought the KOD Disposal Super Stock pack from the staging area for their 20-lap feature. Bailey Jacobs moved into 3^rd spot with a pair of laps on the board but Stevenson, Owen and the No. 60 car were joined by Mark Gordon in a 4-car breakaway at the front of the field. The race distance went by in what seemed like the blink of an eye with Stevenson holding-off Owen for the win. Jacobs, Gordon and Jeremy Dobb completed the top 5.

Rob Crick and David Butcher were on the front row for the 20-lap Jiffy Lube Mini Stock ‘A’ main. Reigning track champion and current point leader Jeremy Kelly took the lead from his starting spot inside the 2^nd row with only 2 laps on the scoreboard. As the leaders were working through the backmarkers, Ryan Oosterholt picked-up the lead with 10 laps on the scoreboard. Wheeling his former ride, in relief of regular driver Shawn Solomon, the multi-time champion took the win. Kelly, Chris Tubman, Ember Junkin and John Lavalle were the rest of the top 5 at the line.

Front row starters Tim Batty and Jacob Mercer got the field set for the 25-lap Late Model feature. Batty and Mercer ran side-by-side for the first couple of laps before a yellow flag for the race’s only caution flag. Dan McHattie took the lead on the ensuing restart and began pulling away from the rest of the pack. James Townsend moved into the 3^rd position with a lap 12 pass and took the 2^nd spot a few laps later. The lead duo started working through slower traffic but no one could challenge McHattie. Batty, Mercer and Steve Powell completed the top 5.

Feature event action concluded with a 50-lapper for the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock teams that saw Christen Lavalle and Cory Horne lead the field to the line. From the drop of the green flag, Sean Kennedy was a man on a mission. From his starting spot on the outside of the 2^nd row, the driver of the No. 9 moved into the top spot and built-up a strong lead on his closest rival. Slower traffic became an issue early, as Kennedy started working through the back of the pack with only 9 laps on the scoreboard. As more and more cars went a lap down to the leader, they also began running their own show for the best possible finishing spot. Steve Finnegan – who started 8^th and was also fighting through the backmarkers – was closing on Kennedy in the race’s late stages. He moved into 2^nd with 38 laps complete and passed Kennedy for the lead at the white flag. The pair ran side-by-side for the last lap, with Finnegan taking the win. Jacob Kelly, Brad Lavalle and Mark Griffin chased the lead duo across the line. It was also a big win for Kyle Johnson, who pocketed the $500 Triple Dice Bonus, presented by KOD Disposal with his 14^th place finish. Jeff Drimmie and KOD Disposal have been long-time supporters of weekly racing at Peterborough Speedway.

Junior Late Model heat races went to Chase Stevenson with a pair, Ryder White and Lucas Finnegan, while Brandon Feeney and Paul Boundy each picked-up a Super Stock opening round checkered flag. Ryan Oosterholt had a pair of Mini Stock qualifier wins, with the others going to Chris Tubman and Ember Junkin. Dan McHattie and Jacob Mercer shared the Late Model preliminary wins. Angelo Novis, Sean Kennedy, Brad Lavalle and Jake Kelly each had a Bone Stock heat win.

Finishing positions in all divisions are unofficial, pending scoring review and post-race safety and technical inspection.

Bullring bullet points: Peterborough Speedway staff and officials were happy to welcome a group of residents and staff from Centennial Place Long Term Care Home in Millbrook, who attended the track on a bus trip outing that also included a pit area tour…The weekly 50/50 draw paid-off with a $424.00 win for Allison Hotte of Peterborough…Multi-time track champion Ryan Oosterholt returned to the driver’s seat, taking a turn at the controls of the No. 29 Mini Stock of Shawn Solomon, while John Lavalle wheeled the No. 89 Bone Stock, in place of Victoria McLenon…3 of the night’s 5 feature events ran from green flag to checkered, without a yellow flag…Special thanks to hometown NASCAR Pinty’s Series racer Bryan Cathcart who had his No. 71 machine and the team’s hauler on display at the track and met with fans and signed autographs…Extra special thanks to scoreboard operator Ben, who crossed another racetrack job off his bucket list by doing the victory lane interviews with the feature race winners.

The 2022 regular season at Peterborough Speedway wraps-up with the Championship Clash, featuring the home track Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck, KOD Disposal Super Stock and Late Model divisions, plus the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series. There will also be 10 lap shootouts for all weekly divisions. Pit gates open at 12:30, with spectator grandstands unlocked at 3:00 and racing at 5:00.
