Bailey Jacobs is 2nd Best in the 1st Start of his 2022 Schedule
The sad truth about racing at any level of the sport is that there can only ever be one winner.
Former Super Stock track champion Bailey Jacobs had a strong piece during the derecho storm delayed 2022 season opener at Peterborough Speedway. Like every driver in the field, he was hoping to give the hometown raceway cheering section of family and friends wearing the Jacobs Motorsports swag something to get excited about now that the year of action was finally underway.
With a win in one of the night’s qualifying rounds under his belt, the driver and crew were making plans for the 25-lap main event that was still to come. Even as they wrapped-up the Fan Appreciation autograph session, Bailey Jacobs and his crew of his father Jeff Jacobs, Tyler and Luke Handley and his fiancé Naomi Wakeford were thinking about changes they could make to get a little more out their No. 60 machine when the green flag waived.
“The car was a little bit tight during the heat race and we were taking about ways to loosen it up for the feature and make it easier to turn,” explained the driver. “We didn’t have the option to put on different tires so we’d have to adjust the air pressure and hope there was enough of a temperature change as the sun went down to make a difference in the car’s handling.”
By the luck of the draw, Bailey Jacobs started the main event on the outside of the front row. The Warsaw, Ontario racer said that while the car felt good, he still crossed the line about a car length behind the race winner. While no racer ever settles for anything on raceday, the driver of the Kawartha Heavy Equipment Repair, Dart Heating & Air Conditioning, T.G. Quirk Towing, Chemong Home Solutions, NAPA Lakefield, FreeFlo Physiotherapy, Sign Works Canada and Clarke Motorsports Communications Camaro finished his night with the car in one piece.
“I’m sure I could’ve worked around Mark if I wanted to put a bumper to him, but I wouldn’t want him to race me like that,” said the driver. “We never stop learning and there will be other races. I think we’ll have a strong season and a runner-up finish on opening night is a great place to start.”
Bailey Jacobs says his 2022 season will be focused on hometown events and his No. 60 Super Stock machine will return to battle Saturday, June 11th for the Lucas Oil Summer Kick-Off at Peterborough Speedway. The team also compete in the 50 Lap Qwick Wick Firestarter Super Stock Series – presented by KOD Disposal – Saturday, June 18th.
