Bryan Mercer is Looking for Another Strong Night at Peterborough Speedway

Consistency is the key to success in every form of motorsports. Its all about staying focused, being smooth and hitting your marks lap after lap. Even though he’d been away from the sport since the end of the 2017 season, Bryan Mercer picked-up where he’d left off during his weekly racing return Saturday, July 17th at Peterborough Speedway.

The second-generation racer from Port Hope, Ontario – who has been a fixture on the local scene since 1997 – turned in a solid performance that saw his No. 81 McColl Racing Enterprises Chevrolet SS leave the track with a qualifying heat race win and a 2nd place finish in the night’s feature race. The driver says it was a great way to kick-off the latest chapter of his motorsports career.

“I had expected that there might be a couple of bumps in the road during the first show but everything fell nicely into place,” admitted Mercer. “The crew gave me a great car and I felt comfortable as soon as we rolled onto the track for the opening practice session. We made a couple of minor changes before the heat races but left everything alone for the rest of night.”

With a solid showing in the bank, Bryan Mercer and the team were looking forward to getting back to Peterborough Speedway Saturday, July 24th to build on the momentum of their quick start, but Mother Nature had another idea and the show fell victim to the first rainout of the abbreviated season. The Late Model division will be back on calendar Saturday, August 14th with racing starting at 6:00.

“We’ll be on the schedule August 14th, again on the 21st and at the regular season finale Saturday, September 4th,” said Bryan Mercer. “Putting a string of good finishes together would be just what we’re looking for as we head into the 28th running of the Autumn Colours Classic October 8th, 9th and 10th.”

Mercer Motorsports’ up and coming young driver – 14-year-old Jacob Mercer – will make his next Toronto Kart Club start Sunday, August 15th at Mosport Raceway for the team’s Partner Appreciation event.
