It’s been a long time coming, but Peterborough Speedway is about to wave the green flag for the first time in 2021. Drivers and race teams in Central Ontario will need to mark a pair of dates on their calendars as action returns to the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 3^rd Mile.

Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says his team has worked-out details under the 2^nd stage of the provincial reopening strategy to host events Saturday, July 10^th with the Bone Stock, Mini Stock, Legend and Super Stock classes and Saturday, July 17^th featuring the Bone Stock, Mini Stock, Late Model and OMRS Modifieds. Racing will start each night at 6:00.

“We’ll be operating under the terms of our proposed COVID-19 schedule,” Josiasse said. “Teams will need to pre-register for either or both dates. Fees for the Bone Stock and Mini Stocks will be $100, including 2 crew members. Late Model, Super Stock and Ontario Legends teams will be $250 per car, with 5 crew. Additional crew members – to a maximum of 10 per team – will be $50 per person.”

To give racers the chance for some track time before the season gets rolling, officials have scheduled an open practice session for Saturday, July 3^rd from 11:00 to 5:00. Cost is $25 for the driver and $15 for additional pit crew members. Pre-race technical inspection will be offered and pit concessions will be open with food and beverage service available.

“We’re hoping for approval to a have a limited number of spectators at the July 10^th and 17^th events,” explained Josiasse. “Grandstand admission will be $40 per person with ticket information and details available on-line shortly. We’re using these shows as a template for how the rest of the season will proceed through stage 2 and the rest of the reopening strategy.”

Josiasse says the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone remains a priority for the team at Peterborough Speedway. When provincial legislation allows the track to open with fans in attendance, several guidelines will be in place. Facemasks will be mandatory and everyone will be required to provide answers to pandemic screening questions to ensure procedures are followed as mandated by Ministry of Health directives. Track personnel encourages drivers, teams, fans and staff to take advantage of area vaccination clinics and opportunities.
