Matt Haufe Rolls a Borrowed Ride to the Peterborough Speedway Ontario Legend Win

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first date of Peterborough Speedway’s 2020 schedule didn’t take the green flag until Saturday, September 19th. Despite the lengthy wait, the 100 fans in attendance saw some impressive racing action; especially when the Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Series took to the track for a 30-lap feature event.
A strong field of 19 starters came to the line, with Miles Tyson and Dawson Drimmie showing the way. From the moment the pack crossed the line, Tyson was at his hard-charging best. The potent No. 49 took control of the show, with Parker Traves, Nick Ledson and Matt Haufe hot on his tail. Ledson claimed the runner-up spot with 9 laps complete and was closing on the leader as they moved through some of the slower traffic.
As Tyson, Ledson and Haufe ran nose-to-tail, the yellow flag waved on lap 18 for an issue in the 4th. That’s where everything changed, as Tyson was collected in the spin and was finished for the night. Ledson led the way on the restart, but Haufe – at the controls of Kevin Foisy’s No. 57 – wanted the position. He started looking for a way around Ledson at lap 20 and grabbed a lead he wouldn’t surrender with just 8 laps remaining.
Ledson hung-on for 2nd, with Traves, Foisy and Adam Cuthbertson completing the top 5. Jeff Forsey, Mark Griffin, Drimmie, Andrew Massey and Nolan Gould rounded-out the top 10. Paul Pierik, Glenn Morris, Nick Portt, Jeremy Coulter, Chris Massey, Wendy Adams, Brandon Feeney, Tyson and Adam D’Agostino were the rest of the finishers.
Haufe won a pair of qualifying heats, with the others going to Foisy, Drimmie, Ledson and Traves. The Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series will return to action Saturday, September 26th at Peterborough Speedway.
