Peterborough Speedway’s Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing; the 24^th Annual Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil Products – gets closer every day. The 3-day speed fest – Friday, Saturday and Sunday – October 7^th, 8^th and 9^th at Canada’s Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval fills the grandstands throughout the Thanksgiving Weekend and with nearly a dozen racing divisions, it packs the pits as well.

This year’s event takes a different format, with the season championships in the OSCAAR Super Late Model, Modified, Midget and Pro Midget classes decided during their respective main events. A group of title eligible teams has been complied from the finishing order in a series of elimination round main events. Series president Dave Gainforth says that drivers and fans alike are excited about the change.

“Our Race for the Cup deal is similar to what NASCAR has been doing for the last few years and rewards consistency,” said Gainforth. “We started with about a dozen teams in each of our travelling series and have whittled that number down to only a few who’ll battle for the honour of being named a 2016 champion.”

Following their performances at the Saturday, September 3^rd event at Peterborough Speedway, race winner Glenn Watson, former Autumn Colours Classic champion J.R. Fitzpatrick and Roy Passer are the 3 Outlaw Super Late Model drivers in the running for this year’s title. The Modified and Midget divisions will name their Race for the Cup delegates following the Oktoberfest Weekend – October 1^st and 2^nd – at Flamboro Speedway.

The Autumn Colours Classic at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City draws entries and fans from across the province for an exciting long weekend of action. Events get underway with pre-race inspection and practice, followed by the first round of qualifying for the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model, Pro Late Model and OSCAAR Modified divisions Friday, October 7^th.
