Countdown to the Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway is On
In 2014, close to 200 different teams took a main event green flag at Peterborough Speedway’s Autumn Colours Classic. This year’s edition – the 23rd annual incarnation of the Super Bowl of Stock Racing – will likely have car counts in a similar range, with close to 10 different classes scheduled to compete. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says that with drivers coming from every track across the province, fans can expect to see strength in every division in the field when action gets underway Friday, October 9th.
“Taking away an Autumn Colours’ checkered flag can be a huge challenge, but it can also define a racer’s career,” said Josiasse. “I know that if I wasn’t looking after the show, I’d be out there fighting for a trip to the winner’s circle. Since I can’t climb behind the wheel, my victory is seeing the smiling faces of the spectators in the grandstands and excellent action on the track.”
Peterborough Speedway officials have recently announced a pair of 20 lap dash events that will spotlight the many young drivers competing across the province. The APC Auto Parts Young Guns Showcase races – run at the conclusion of the Friday night program – will see Thunder Car drivers 25 and under, along with Mini Stockers who are 21 or younger run for a unique trophy, prize money and bragging rights. Josiasse says these events will showcase the youthful charge that exists in short track racing today.
Events at the 23rd Annual Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil Products – get underway Friday, October 9th and continue through the Thanksgiving Weekend at Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval. Pit gates for the first day of action will open at 10:00, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00 and racing – with the first round of qualifying for the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Mini Stock, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model, Pro Late Model and OSCAAR Modified divisions – taking the green flag at 6:00.
