The rough and tumble world of short track stock car racing gets a chance to show off its softer side, as Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval hosts its annual Autism Awareness Night this Saturday. On track action will include the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock, Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck, Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model and Ontario Legend divisions. There will also be a kid’s race at intermission.

Canadian national autism foundation is dedicated to increasing public awareness about autism and the day-to-day issues faced by individuals with autism, their families and the professionals with whom they interact. Their work involves advocacy, government relations and responses to various issues that affect people with autism and their families. The Peterborough Chapter of the Canadian national autism foundation has a number of events planned throughout the summer and is always looking for volunteers to offer support and social activities to individuals and their families in Peterborough, Northumberland, Newcastle, Haliburton and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Peterborough Speedway’s 2014 season has been one of the most competitive in recent memory, with multi-time feature race winners in the 4Fun, Mini Stock, Thunder Car and Renegade Truck fields, while the Late Model division is still waiting to see its first repeat main event victor. Ryan Kimball, Bryan Mercer, Chris Mitchell, Jack Horner, Amanda Connolly and Nick Goetz – in the Sunday, June 29th Chase for the Colours event – have all picked-up a feature race checkered flag. Of course, the biggest winners so far have been the race fans. The tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City has seen some outstanding battles on the racetrack and has yet to lose a scheduled event due to inclement weather.

Saturday, July 5th pit gates open at 3:00, with the spectator areas unlocked at 5:00 and the first qualifying heat taking to the track at 6:00. Looking ahead on the schedule to Saturday, July 12th, Country 105 presents the Mid Summer Shootout, featuring 4Fun, Mini Stock, Renegade Truck, Thunder Car and Ontario Modifieds Racing Series action, along with Kid’s Barrel Races at intermission.
