Peterborough Speedway Kicks Off Summer With an Action Packed Show

June 19th - cuthbertsonSummer’s arrival means different things to different people. Some look forward to day trips to the beach or cottage, while others enjoy relaxing by the pool with a frosty beverage. Then, there are the dedicated motorsports enthusiasts from across Central Ontario who look forward to the hottest action of the year on Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

Peterborough Speedway’s 2014 summer schedule rolls to the starting line Saturday, June 21st with racing featuring the Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck, Paul Davis Thunder Car and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model divisions, as well as the year’s second appearance by the popular Hurricane Midgets and a 100 lap endurance event. Track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says this is always a very well-liked part of the season.

“A lot of drivers and teams from different tracks travel around during the summer and use their vacation time to visit some unfamiliar territory,” said Josiasse. “We’re always happy to see some invaders come through the pit gates to take on the local favourites. Our regulars like it too, because it gives them the chance to defend the hometown turf.”

Looking ahead on the schedule, Josiasse also pointed out the Sunday, June 29th ‘Chase for the Colours’ pole qualifying event, presented by Lucas Oil Products. Fans can see Late Model teams run a 75 lap ‘A’ main, while 4Fun, Mini Stock and Thunder Car drivers will battle in feature events that are 25, 30 and 40 laps respectively. Winning your main event will pay off with the inside front row starting spot for the prestigious 22nd Annual Autumn Colours Classic, staged October 10th, 11th and 12th.

Competition is strong in all of Peterborough Speedway’s divisions. Saturday, June 14th Jack Dallin continued his dominance of the Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck field with his 4th win in as many starts. The same night, Willow Barberstock and Anthony DiBello became the first repeat winners other than Dallin when they took the main event checkered flag in the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun and Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car divisions.

Saturday, June 21st pit gates will open at 3:00, with the spectator area unlocked at 5:00 and the day’s first green flag at 6:00. Sunday, June 29th – for the Chase for the Colours event – pit gates will open at 11:00, spectator grandstands at 1:00, with racing starting at 2:30.
