This weekend saw the Touring Chase for the Colours presented by Lucas Oil as the OSCAAR Super Late models and Modifieds invaded the track for their first visit of the 2013 season. Accompanying them on track were the speedway’s own Battlefield Equipment Rental Four Funs, Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stocks and Parry Springs Renegade Trucks. To kick off the night, The Old Smokehouse and Farm Bro Racing provided a free corn roast for the fans to enjoy, while a fireworks show by Sky rockers Private Fireworks rounded off the night.

To kick off the night the Parry Springs Renegade Trucks hit the asphalt for their first heat with points leader Bill O’Hara leading more than half of the race before the #41 of Tyler Junkin passed him on lap 7 to take the checker flag. In the second round of heats O’Hara and Junkin battled yet again but this time O’Hara was able to hold of the #41 to get the win. The truck feature saw itself shortened as the #49 of Stephen Bierworth turned head on into the front stretch wall and blocking the path of the #07 of Jack Dallin resulting in a hard hit on the first lap. With those two out of the race, the night’s rivalry between O’Hara and Junkin heated up even more with Junkin taking the checkered flag.

Always a group to put on a show, the Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stocks saw the Farm Bro team continue their winning ways as #79 of Ryan Oosterholt and the #89 of Ryan Babin took the checkers. Come the inversion round of the heats Oosterholt saw himself in victory lane again, while the #12 of Brandt Graham took the other heat. In the feature, 19 cars took the green flag with lots of four and three wide racing. Brandt Graham led the first 12 laps of the feature before an engine failure gave the lead to the #54 of Danny Benedict. The Honda Prelude of Benedict was raced hard to the finish as a bad crash on the final lap allowed him a win. Rounding out the top three were Ryan oosterholt in second and Capital City Speedway regular Kyle Baker.

Coming up third in the racing order were the OSCAAR Modifieds, making the first of their two trips to Canada’s Toughest 1/3 Mile. Always a threat, the McLeans dominated heat one with the #8 of Gary taking the checkers and the #7 of Brent came second. In the second heat, the #31 of Josh Gruntz took the win in his first appearance of the season.  The second round of heats provided some different faces in victory lane with the #1B of Brad pearsall taking the third heat and rookie Shane Stickel taking the fourth. When it came to the feature, there was more action than the fans could handle. Gary MCLean lead all of the laps, proving his dominance at Peterborough, but not before a front stretch scuffle saw the #19 of Dave Scott and the #11 of Dave Osborne get into it, effectively ending their night and their cars, while the #31 of Josh Gruntz, piloting a brand new McColl chassis, needed to be cradled off of the track after sustaining serious damage.

The Battelfield Equipment Rental Four Funs ensured the action didn’t stop with the #14 of James Townsend taking the first heat win and the #13 of Griffin Powell taking the second after fighting his way from the back of the pack. In the second round the #79 of Ryan Oosterholt took the checker in heat three while Griffen Powell returned to victory lane. Not to be outdone by everyone else, the Four Funs made sure to go three wide around the track, which ultimately led to a wreck finishing the night for the #62 of Willow Barberstock and the #29 of Kenny Ohno. Finishing  his perfect night, Griffen Powell took his second feature win in a row, followed by Ryan Oosterholt and James Townsend.

The headline show for the night, the OSCAAR Super Late Models provided some of their best racing this year. Heat one saw series rookie Kevin Cornelius lead last years champion Brandon Watson to the checker flag, while Andrew Gresel took the second. For the third heat, 2011 champion Glenn Watson found victory lane, and the #13 Passer Racing car driven by NCATS standout JR Fitzpatrick took the final heat. With only two caution flags in their 50 lap feature, Brandon Watson lead every lap of the race, chased by the #81 of Andrew Gresel and the #7 of Derrick Tiemersma who battled the race race before finishing second and third respectively.
